Adding Video

Embedding a video of your work, or your studio, or an exhibition into WPFolio is simple! Follow along…

Upload your video

If you want to share your won videos, you need to get them online. Create an account with a video sharing site (vimeo, youtube, etc). Then upload the videos you would like to embed to those sites. There’s a few steps involved, but if you can’t figure this out, google it. (Yes, there’s a video on youtube about how to upload a video to youtube!)

Embed a video in a post or page

1. the stunningly easy way…

All you need to do to embed something into a post or page is to post the URL to it into your content area. Make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post).

For example:

Check out this cool video:

http://www.videosite.com/watch?v=nTDNLUzjkpg

That was a cool video.

WordPress will automatically turn that into a YouTube embed when the post is viewed! (Check the “Auto-embeds” check box in Administration > Settings > Media SubPanel.)

That’s all!

Note: The above is quoted from the trusty WordPress Codex!

2. Using a plugin

I find Viper’s Video Quicktags to be a great, easy to use plugin for easily embedding video. There may be others, so check around.

3. The many options, old fashioned way

Some services offer options that include the code to copy (the embed code) as well as options to let you change the way the video is presented. You can usually change

  • The video dimensions
  • Color
  • How the title is presented

Once you have the video the way you want copy the embed code and paste it into the post body. Make sure you are pasting it into the HTML section of the post and not the visual editor section. The HTML tab at the top of the post will help you identify which view you are in HTML or Visual.

Paste your embed code while in HTML view

Then publish your post, sit back and let everyone enjoy the amazing videos you are sharing on your site.

Adding a Thumbnail for your Video

I added my video, now where’s the thumbnail? WordPress doesn’t have an image to work with so you need to add one manually.

If you want to add a thumbnail for a video post upload an image – a screenshot, title page, or any other image. Then specify it as your thumbnail (like with any other post). You don’t have to add the image to your post, just specify it as your thumbnail. See Adding Posts > Selecting A Thumbnail for more.
