WPFolio Two Update

Among some bug fixes, I’ve added a couple new things to make your lives better and easier:

1. Option to Disable Comments

According to questions on the WordPress support forums, it was obvious that many WPFolio users were confused by WordPress’s obscure, not-so-intuitive way to disable comments. Well, WPFolio Two now does it for you! Easy peasy. Here’s what the option looks like:

2. Navigation back to posts

Users of WPFolio Two may have noticed the navigation missing from the bottom of your posts. This was bad news – when you went to an attachment page, there was no link back to the post! And you were stuck in the gallery vortex. This is no longer the case, the post bottom navigation is back.

Now download it!

Choose the most recent version and let me know what you think in the comments, here or on the demo site.

More features and fixes are in the works (hopefully a big one next weekend), so hang tight. Thanks to everyone for their questions/feedback on the demo site and keep them coming!

I’m trying out Folio2 0.941b, ran into a little problem:
Artwork dimensions are not being saved correctly – I enter something like 22″ x 33″, and it looks like only 22 is saved and displayed. This is consistent.

Workaround: If I enter 22 x 33 (no inch symbols), that works fine, so I guess over-zealous quote-stripping is responsible.

Thanks Michael. This is a known bug – keep an eye out for a fix in the next week or so.

P.S. I fixed major mistake in v0.941 – make sure you go back and get the most recent version

I love the latest stable version of WPFolio and installed it as my theme.

However, I could not get rid of the comments box on my page. I read the instructions and dutifully unchecked the “allow comments” on the settings panes, and even unchecked “allow trackbacks / pingbacks”. This did not work, either.

So I then updated my WPFolio with the latest “WPFolio 2″ version and activated it. Went to the “Options” menu and followed the instructions for deactivating comments. But this hasn’t worked, either.

As an aside, I am sad that WPFolio 2 has abandoned the simple typography of the stable version. I much prefer 1.75′s cleanliness and I wonder:

Is there a fix for the comments problem available in 1.75?

Or, might there be an option panel in WPFolio 2 that would allow us to stick with the older typography.

Very much appreciate your hard work and creativity!

So sorry about the comments option not working – I’ll check it out so keep an eye out for an update (busy week so apologies for not getting to it sooner.)

About the typography – with some CSS in a child theme or in the Custom CSS field in the WPFolio 2 options, you can change the typography however you like. The new font in the header is also optional. If you leave the WebFont field blank, you can choose a traditional font below it. That aside – I agree, the typography does need some re-evauluating, it’s on my list so keep an eye out for updates.

    Hi There!

I am a WPFolio user, and am happy with it! Great work!

Quick question, I am running into a spam issue. When you google my WPFolio site – http://www.aubreyroemer.com there is a bunch of random spam, which I cannot seem to delete! Please help! Thanks so much!

Hmm not sure about this – although I don’t think it has anything to do with the theme. Try installing the WordPress SEO plugin, that may help.

Hi, I tried to search for this theme on WordPress and in the additional DL links, but came up with nothing. Is theme available elsewhere? It’s the bees’ knees. Thanks!

WPFolio Two is not available on WordPress yet, but will be once it’s out of the Beta phase. For right now, you can download the latest version from github: link to github.com

I love, love this theme. I gave my site the exact look I had envisioned. You’re incredible!

I noticed the opacity scroll-over thingy doesn’t work in Chrome or Safari. Is this due to browser differences, or is there a work-around? It’s really cool.

Thanks! Sorry for getting back to you so late – yeah, the opacity issue is because of browser differences. It’s on my list to fix, so keep an eye out for updates. Or feel free to take a stab at it yourself (which would be awesome) – fork it on github.

I accidentally upgraded to the most recent version of WP. Is it not compatible with this theme anymore?

Everything should be fine – what is specifically going wrong?

hi! thanks for the great theme. clean, simple, easy to use, exactly what i need to showcase my portfolio. i’m hoping there is a solution to this problem, however, (i haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere): is it possible to add a sidebar/widgets to static pages? i don’t want my homepage to be the blog, but that seems to be the only way to show a side bar on my home page. i’m not very savvy with html.. not sure if that’s the only way to do it?

    thx!

There currently isn’t a way to do this without making a custom page template with some php. Not too hard – all you’d have to do is copy page.php from the theme’s core then add it to the child theme. Then you’ll need to look at single.html and see where the sidebar is called, then add that line to page.php.

Add this to the issues page on github and label it ‘enhancements’. I’ll add it to the next update (not sure when that will be though).
